Double/single hung windows have two sash, an inner/lower and an outer/upper. The inner/lower sash is the opening sash, sliding up to open on the single hung. On the double hung both sash operate. The white sculptured style grids are placed between the double glass unit. This makes for easy cleaning of the glass and no maintenance for the grid.
